Gavin Clifton is a UK-based children’s author, inspirational speaker, disability advocate and lyricist. Known professionally as The Disabled Writer, Gavin was born with cerebral palsy and a severe speech impairment, and his lived experience is central to all his work.
He writes inclusive, unfiltered and accessible stories for children that centre disabled characters, highlighting their importance and making the stories more impactful. His books, including the Amazon bestselling Max and the Magic Wish, Paddy the Polar Bear Teddy, and Anya and the Enchanted Wheelchair, give children permission to be themselves and to ask questions about disability, acceptance and difference.
As a speaker, Gavin delivers impactful talks in schools, organisations, conferences and public settings across the UK. Using assistive technology to communicate, he helps both children and adults understand how disability, speech differences and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) work in practice. His talks are known for being direct, powerful, and memorable, which encourages the audience to stay engaged and consider new perspectives on disability, acceptance, identity, resilience, and inclusion.
